LASIK with Dr. Cavanaugh

Description

LASIK at Cavanaugh Eye Center

The first step in LASIK surgery is an evaluation by Dr. Cavanaugh to ensure that this is the appropriate treatment for your eyes. Most people who are nearsighted, farsighted or have astigmatism are candidates for refractive surgery. The surgery experience is easy, with staff assistants contributing to a calming atmosphere. Patients receive a mild sedative and numbing drops for the eyes, and the procedure is over in 5-7 minutes. After a nap at home, patients awake to find their vision remarkably improved that same day.

Dr. Cavanaugh: When a patient comes in for a LASIK consultation, we're going to sit down and find out what the goals are but we're also going to look and see what parameters that patient fits into as far as what refractive surgery they need. So, if we decide that your a good candidate for LASIK, which most people with nearsightedness, small amount of farsightedness or a stigmatism, can be. If there's no disease or cataract formation, then LAISK is a very straightforward procedure. They typically get a mild sedative, numbing drops is all it takes to numb up the eye. The procedure itself is only about 5 to 7 minutes, so it's fairly straightforward and easy for the patient. We calm patients down, our staff is great at talking through the process. And following the procedure we send patients home to take a nice nap. Typically they're going to feel a little scratchy, burning, teary for about 3 or 4 hours. After that things feel pretty good and their vision to starts to improve even later that same day, which is very exciting.
