Timothy B. Cavanaugh, M.D., is a board-certified, fellowship-trained ophthalmologist at Cavanaugh Eye Center, serving patients in Overland Park, KS. Dr. Cavanaugh specializes in corneal procedures, LASIK, and cataract surgery.
In practice since 1991, Dr. Cavanaugh’s a noted innovator in ophthalmology. He has performed over 25,000 laser vision correction procedures for the correction of all levels of nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism. He was a key study investigator who helped refractive lasers get approval in the USA and was the first surgeon in the region to use the microkeratome used in modern LASIK procedures.
Dr. Cavanaugh received both his medical degree and his ophthalmic residency training at the University of Kansas where he was Chief Resident. He completed a surgical fellowship in advanced corneal and refractive surgery at the prestigious Wilmer Institute of Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, which is consistently named the number one eye hospital and training program in the nation. In 1991, he began his professional career as an ophthalmologist at Hunkeler Eye Centers in Kansas City and remained there until establishing Cavanaugh Eye Center in 2002.
Along with serving his patients, Dr. Cavanaugh is an active teacher and lecturer at medical meetings, as well as a published author with numerous scientific articles and textbook chapters to his credit. He is also an active member of several highly regarded professional organizations.
His commitment to excellence in ophthalmology has been acknowledged by both his patients and his colleagues in the industry. In a poll of 500 area physicians, Dr. Cavanaugh was named one of the top two ophthalmologists in Kansas City. He and his wife Linda are parents to three grown boys.
